Description: In only seven years, the Maltz Jupiter Theatre has become one of Florida’s preeminent professional theaters. Its three goals are performance, production and education, through collaboration with local and national artists. MJT has already received multiple Carbonell Awards, South Florida’s highest honor for artistic excellence—and it’s increased its subscription base to more than 7,100. The theater recently built world-class facilities in support of its Conservatory of Performing Arts, which serves hundreds of students in after-school, weekend, and summer programs. After receiving a prestigious John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Fund grant, MJT developed the Musical Academy for the New York Musical Theatre Festival, where it won the Daego International Musical Festival Production Award. In addition, under this program, the theater also commissioned the world premiere of Fanny Brice: The Real Funny Girl. The Maltz Jupiter Theatre has a capacity of 554. And it hosts innovative programs such as Talk Backs, moderated by artistic director Andrew Kato. These are interactive question-and-answer sessions that take place immediately after a play’s performance, and they offer audiences a behind-the-scenes look into the process of creating live theater. And some of the people with whom you’ll be talking will be the actors, directors, choreographers, and creative teams. In addition, a new program called Emerging Artists in Musical Theatre Playwriting Series will nurture the creation of new musical theater at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. Past performances, as demonstrated by the rapidly rising subscription base, have been very warmly received, among them Noises Off, Barnum, Beehive, Evita, The Boyfriend, and Man of La Mancha.
