City: Key West, FL
Category: Getting Here, Getting Around
Telephone: (305) 296-5439
Address: 3491 S. Roosevelt Blvd.

Description: The facility doubled in size to 50,000 square feet in 2009 following an extensive renovation garnering a $31 million price tag. The airport can now accommodate many more passengers traveling in and out of the southernmost city. Although Key West is the Florida destination of choice for thousands of visitors each year, do not expect to arrive here via commercial jetliner. Air service to this island in the sun is of the commuter variety. The planes are small and flights are often overbooked during peak seasons, especially in January and February, so be sure to arrive early to check in for your flight. The Conch Flyer restaurant/lounge has propellers from actual airplanes hanging out of the wall. In back of the massive cocktail bar are loads of pictures and memorabilia of Key West history. The bar stools are designed with propellers as legs to support the seats. The food is really great, too. If you are meeting a flight, short-term metered parking is available. You may also park in the long-term lot. Weekly rates are available.Avis, Budget, Dollar, and Hertz rental cars are available at the airport terminal; Alamo and Enterprise are just a courtesy call away (see listings in our Rental Cars section in this chapter). Whenever possible, make reservations for your vehicle in advance. Taxis stand by in front of the airport awaiting each flight, and many hotels offer complimentary shuttle service. Flights into and out of Key West are provided by the following airlines:
