Description: Relive the days of wreckers, lumpers, and divers at the Key West Shipwreck Museum, where actors, video footage, and interactive presentations re-create vestiges of Key West’s once-lucrative wrecking industry. During the 1800s about 100 ships passed by the port of Key West daily, many running aground on the reef. Asa Tift, a 19th-century wrecker and the original owner of what would one day become the Hemingway Home, tells his story of salvaging the goods of the SS Isaac Allerton, which was downed by a hurricane in 1856 (see our Kidstuff chapter). Shows run every 30 minutes, daily.
