Description: Once a year, on a Sat in mid to late Feb, Palm Beach County’s chieftains of chili get the chance to strut their stuff, and to see who’s the best chili cook of all. Here, the weapons of choice are large pots, and ladles. The event takes place right at the GreenMarket in downtown Delray. Come hungry because the chili’s great. And you’d be amazed at the different types of chili cuisine, among them traditional, New Age, and vegetarian. You’ll taste chili concoctions at all levels of “heat”. You’ll taste it with all types of accompanying food chopped up in the chili. You’ll taste it with all kinds of spices and peppers, from the sublime to the scorched-throat variety. Both samplers and a panel of judges get to vote on who the Big Chili Honcho in town really is—there’s a Peoples’ Choice Award and a Judges’ Choice Award. Trophies—and bragging rights for the next year—are handed out. Free.
