Description: The 30 acre park consists of expansive green space that was formerly part of the Everglades. Animal lovers flock to the live exhibit in the main building, which houses a slew of reptiles, amphibians, as well as a 800+ gallon freshwater aquarium. Nature trails and bird-watching areas also attract visitors, many of whom take the eco tours offered by the parks and rent canoes. A canal for fishing is located nearby and sheltered picnic tables and restrooms are available. Stop by late night for free star-gazing programs with the Southern Cross Astronomical Society. The park itself is open daily except Mon and Tues from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

3. Coral Reef Park

Description: This park spans over 50 acres of Palmetto Bay and includes a trail circling the park, and various sporting spaces including tennis and volleyball courts, a baseball field, and plenty of open space for soccer and football games. Two playgrounds are on-site and the elementary school within the park utilizes them.

Description: Early-risers can canoe to Chicken Key, a 7-acre mangrove island filled with sand dunes and home to a restored bird rookery. Manatees, sea turtles, and various birds are often spotted while canoeing. The tour is designed for all skill levels and costs $30 for adults, $20 for children between the ages of 9 and 14.

Description: Lush palmetto trees line the fairways at this par 70, public course. Indigenous, tropical flora and a canal system create a challenging but beautiful course designed by Dick Wilson in 1959. Tee time reservations can be made on the website or by calling (305) 238-2922. Prime slots (like Saturday mornings) cost $43 while afternoon rates can be as low as $24 (weekdays after noon). Single rider carts are available for those with disabilities and must be booked 24 hours in advance. A 22-position, lighted driving range and a lighted putting green are also available for practicing. Sixty balls cost $6.26. The course’s other amenities include a pro shop and a clubhouse that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner along with snacks.

Description: It’s no small feat to gain the title of Best Bakery in Miami but this spot made it happen. In an unsuspecting strip mall, only locals know about this secret, which is known best for its croissants, which come in a variety of flavors (almond, ham and cheese, chocolate, to name a few). Sandwiches on ciabatta bread can be topped with a number of cheeses, vegetables, and meats. Baguettes are freshly baked throughout the day and will only set you back $2.
