1. Lost Plantation Golf Club

City: Rincon, GA
Category: Parks & Recreation
Telephone: (912) 826-2092
Address: 1 Clubhouse Dr.

Description: This semiprivate course near the Effingham County town of Rincon is a long one—7.5 miles from first tee to 18th green, so spread out that you’ll never see another hole from the one you’re playing. Narrow, tree-lined fairways set on rolling hills offer an abundance of hazards. There are ponds, lakes, or wetlands on 14 holes, and the Bermuda grass greens are big and protected by large bunkers. The signature hole of the 6,445-yard, par-72 course is No. 18, a 390-yard par 4 featuring a dogleg to the left and a lake that shields 70 percent of the green—on the front, left-hand side, and back. Lost Plantation’s rustic-looking clubhouse provides golfers with a well-stocked pro shop, a grill, and a card room. The course, which was built in 1988 and designed by Joe Lee, has a driving range and practice green. You can walk the course after 1 p.m.; fees are $32 on weekdays and $37 on weekends, with discounts for seniors and afternoon times. Lost Plantation is 21 miles from downtown Savannah. You can get there from the city by taking Bay Street and SR 21 to Fort Howard Road in Rincon and turning right. The road leading to the golf course is about a mile down Fort Howard Road on the right.
