Address: 1 Lewis and Clark Trail

Description: The 14,000-square-foot visitor center is located at the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers and the site of Camp DuBois, where explorers Lewis and Clark wintered before embarking on their trek through the Northwest. The center features a 12-minute orientation film, At Journey’s Edge, which provides a good overview of the expedition, and a life-size replica of the 55-foot keelboat that was used on the journey. The “misquitors” exhibits quote extensively from the journals of the two explorers—neither of whom was a spelling champion. Other exhibits include information on the Louisiana Territory and the Native Americans who lived there, the Corps of Discovery’s preparations for the trip, and the impact and legacy of the expedition.
