Description: Founded in 1964, Cardinal Ritter was named for Cardinal Joseph Ritter, the first archbishop to integrate Catholic schools. Located on the city’s west side, Cardinal Ritter has 582 students and 42 teachers with an average class size of 22. The school features more than 100 courses, including Advanced Placement and dual-credit classes. About 95 percent of students pursue post-secondary education. Cardinal Ritter offers extracurricular activities in fine arts, music, and theater and has 19 varsity sports. Launched in 2008, a new concept in community service is called Ritter Town, which encourages volunteer projects within the school and surrounding area. In its first year, Ritter Town participants volunteered in a neighborhood nursing home, raked leaves at more than 60 homes, and provided tutoring services. Tuition at Cardinal Ritter is about $6,600 for Catholics and $8,090 for non-Catholics.
