Description: Community Hospital East began in 1956 to answer a need for accessible, high-quality health care. The hospital started with 300 beds and 111 employees. Ten years later, the psychiatric inpatient units and the coronary care unit opened at Community Hospital East. A cardiac catheterization lab, ambulatory care, and the Family Practice Residency Program soon joined those services. Also added were 250 new beds, Hook Rehabilitation Center, Gallahue Mental Health Center, the Pain Center, and Community Regional Cancer Care. In 1988 the Same-Day Surgery Center opened at Community Hospital East, followed by a new main lobby, entrance, and professional building three years later. Indiana Surgery Center East was opened in 1999, the Center for Interventional Radiology in 2004, and the $7 million Radiation Oncology Treatment Center in 2007. The facility contains a 24-hour emergency room with state-of-the art equipment.
