Description: This park will help your child’s inner naturalist come shining through. Located 3 miles west of Blanchard, a small town 15 miles north of Shreveport via LA 173, the 160-acre nature park, operated through Caddo Parish taxes, contains a pine-oak-hickory forest accessible by 5 miles of nature trails. The park has an interpretive building with three rooms of live animals and exhibits about the natural world, an outdoor pavilion with restrooms, a wheelchair accessible trail, and several naturalists who provide information and instruction to park visitors. A fee will be charged for using the pavilion longer than four hours. Nature-oriented programs are available on an appointment basis. Special programs are offered throughout the year and advertised through the local media and the Web site. Annual events include Get Hooked on Fishing Day in June and the Red River Natural Wildlife Refuge Celebration in Oct. Another annual event, Earth Camp, is offered each summer. Open Wed through Sat 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sun 1 to 5 p.m.
