1. Yogie And Friends Exotic Cat Sanctuary

City: Frierson, LA
Category: Tours & Attractions
Telephone: (318) 795-0455
Address: 128 Fob Lane

Description: This sanctuary is the only USDA licensed and Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries permitted facility of its kind in the state. Founded in 1999 as a place for rescued big exotic cats, Yogie and Friends provides a safe, stress-free environment for these incredible animals, many of whom started as somebody’s pet—those apparently oblivious to the fact that cute cubs grow up to be very large cats that require much attention and expense. Yogie, an African lion, eats more than $5,000 worth of food each year. Add to the feeding list 15 of his friends and the cost becomes enormous. While the admission fee provides some financial assistance, this not-for-profit facility relies on donations. Open on Sat from Apr to Nov, from 12 to 5 p.m., weather permitting. Available for parties and special events for groups of 20 or more; call for details. Yogie and Friends is dedicated to educating the public about these creatures and why they should not be purchased as pets. And while you will not be allowed to pet any of these four-legged residents, just looking at them will be enjoyment enough. From Shreveport, take I-49 south to exit 191 (Frierson/Stonewall). Turn left, go under the interstate, and continue for 3.4 miles. There will be a sharp right turn, so be careful. Turn right on Fob Lane just past the apartments and you will find the sanctuary 200 feet on your right.
