Description: Ready for some outlaw racing excitement? Then get ready for the thrills of Thunder Road. The track is built on more than 200 acres of land and located 23 miles north of Shreveport on US 71, in the quaint town of Gilliam. The facility houses a quarter-mile long racing surface with approximately a half mile of shutdown area. Smooth and level, the concrete and asphalt track, built in 1998, will accommodate dragsters capable of speeds exceeding 315 miles per hour. Bleacher-style seats for 7,500 have been constructed with plans for several more in the future. There is a three-story timing tower with several suites. Concession stands, a souvenir shop, and fully functional restrooms make your day of adventure relaxed and memorable. Thunder Road Raceway Park is currently an independent track and not affiliated with NHRA or IHRA. The facility is open to professional racers and the general public who want to race their vehicles in a safe and exciting environment. There is a class for every vehicle, as well as motorcycles. You must undergo a safety inspection before being allowed to race. In addition to a full complement of emergency teams available at every race, the track itself has a number of safety features in the design. With a half mile of shutdown area that incorporates a sand trap, the track has plenty of room to handle top fuel cars as well as any emergency situations that might arise. Concrete retaining walls line both sides of the track, placing this facility above and beyond current safety requirements. So either call or check the Web site for schedules. Want to rent the track for your own racing adventure? No problem.
