Description: Centerville Pie’s chicken potpie is an Oprah “favorite thing” and it can be yours, too. This quaint little bakery/cafe sells scrumptious pies in all guises from savory to sweet and to eat in or take out. The clam pie is especially popular on Friday as a take-home dinner choice for locals. You can savor a slice of hot pie—from apple to apple cranberry to pecan—straight out of the oven or get a pie to go (and get an extra chicken potpie for the freezer). 6. Centerville Historical Society

Description: Founded in 1952 this society maintains the Mary Lincoln House with late Victorian displays, including a child’s room, a doll and quilt room, and a colonial kitchen. Also on view are the personal collections of Charles Ayling, including Sandwich glass, military collections, Dodge MacKnight paintings, Elmer Crowell bird carvings, and furniture. Other displays include marine artifacts, including tools, excerpts from ships’ logs, and the wheel from the steamer Portland, which was lost on Nov 27, 1898, in a gale subsequently called the Portland Gale after the steamer. The Centerville museum also hosts temporary exhibitions and is noted for its fine collection of period clothing, including shoes, jewelry, and accessories. The house is open from noon to 4 p.m., Tues through Sat, early May through Dec. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, and free for children under 12.
