Address: 5 Water St.
Insider Pick:

Description: Battleship Cove is a “floating” maritime museum and war memorial that is the site for a collection of World War II naval vessels. The main attraction is the battleship Massachusetts. Climb aboard and enjoy almost total access to “Big Mamie” and imagine what a sailor’s life was like—there are steep stairs, low doorways, and terribly uncomfortable-looking sailors’ racks (bunks) for sleeping. Kids especially love the opportunity to crank the hand wheels of the ship’s huge gun turrets. The destroyer Joseph P. Kennedy and the East German submarine the Lionfish are also open to explore. Also check out the two restored World War II–era PT boats displayed here. There are themed exhibits on several of the ships including one on “Women Protecting US,” and the multimedia presentation The Pearl Harbor Experience, which re-creates the sights and sounds of the attack on December 7, 1941.
