Description: Right on the scenic Cape Cod Rail Trail bike path, in the heart of the Cape Cod National Seashore and close to the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, this complex is made up of four separate buildings, nicely spaced and set back from the road. There are a total of nine motel units, an efficiency, a three-bedroom cottage that can sleep six, and a one-bedroom cottage that can accommodate two to four people. All rooms have full baths, cable TVs, air-conditioning, ceiling fans, coffeemakers, refrigerators, and microwave ovens. The three-acre property has a play yard with swings and a climbing tower for children, and, for all ages, volleyball, horseshoes, badminton, and shuffleboard. Complimentary coffee is served with newspapers each morning in the common room. The Midway is open Feb through Oct.

Description: This restored sea captain’s house, set on two acres, includes a heated outdoor pool and in-house day spa. Combining the personalized service of a B&B with the upscale amenities of a boutique hotel, the Penny House pampers guests with extras like Matelasse covers, oversize bath towels, luxury linens, and toiletries from Baudelaire and Gilchrist and Soames. There is a full breakfast in the dining room, which features the home’s original 1690 wide wood floorboards. The house has two sections—the old 1690 portion and the “new” section, which dates from 1750.The rooms are of varying sizes and rates. All rooms have air-conditioning, cable TV and VCRs, private bathrooms, and free wireless Internet access. The Penny Serenade room has a private entrance and a private deck overlooking the terrace—a perfect honeymoon suite! If you want a fireplace, ask for suites that also include two-person whirlpool tubs. All guests enjoy access to the day spa and neighboring Willy’s Gym, a deluxe wellness center equipped with an indoor saltwater pool, Pilates and yoga classes, racquetball courts, a rock-climbing wall, and other enticements. After a shower try some afternoon tea accompanied by treats like brownies, homemade cookies, blueberry tarts, and sour cream coffeecake. The Penny House is closed over Christmas and New Year’s. The inn is nonsmoking, and children older than eight are welcome.

It encompasses 18 holes, a winding river, a fountain, a pond with geysers, three lighthouses, and the pièce de résistance: a wraparound waterfall that gushes from a height of 16 feet. Poit’s also includes a snack bar, a video arcade, and an ice-cream concession serving treats from Garelick Farms. Open from mid-Apr through mid-Sept. Daily in-season hours are from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. In the shoulder months, Poit’s is open weekends only from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
