Description: From the moment you step inside, there is a distinctive feeling to this ca. 1798 Cape Cod sea captain’s house. It boasts a wealth of “early settler” details, seven fireplaces, pegged hardwood wide-planked floors, a ship’s captain’s staircase, and narrow hallways. The common room with fireplace and the dining room beckon you to relish the days when travelers gathered around to exchange tales. You will find modern conveniences here, including private baths, a whirlpool in the downstairs guest room, and air-conditioning. Each morning guests can linger over a breakfast of Crook Jaw Inn blend coffee, freshly baked muffins and scones, and other gourmet fare. Within walking distance are some great dining spots, including the oldest inn on Cape Cod, the Olde Yarmouth Inn. The Crook Jaw, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, features featherbeds and Egyptian cotton linens, and the five guest rooms offer furnishings that span continents and centuries. The inn is open year-round.

Description: Located in the heart of Yarmouthport, this inn is just a short, leisurely stroll away from picturesque country lanes, outstanding restaurants, interesting antiques and gift shops, and a number of historical attractions. Built by a shipbuilder in 1825, the handsome Greek Revival building with nine guest rooms evokes the elegance of past centuries with its wide floorboards, chandeliers, and antiques. Some rooms have four-poster beds, some have lovely lace canopied queen-size beds, and all have private bathrooms and air-conditioning. Three rooms with whirlpools are available, and all four rooms in the carriage house feature working fireplaces. The inn was recently updated with a large new kitchen, additional gas fireplaces, new air-conditioning in the rooms, and central air in the main house. Also new are global positioning devices for guests to use, a cappuccino and espresso machine, and a wine fridge for guests. Your hosts serve a sumptuous breakfast under a crystal chandelier. The inn is open year-round, and children are welcome. One room is wheelchair accessible.

Description: This is a year-round, outpatient hemodialysis unit. It does not usually have a waiting list. Hours vary but are generally Mon through Sat 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with longer hours in summer.

Description: If you like great sushi, hot sake, and a good atmosphere to suck down both, this is the place to go. Inaho has been drawing rave reviews from locals and visitors alike for its beautifully prepared food, especially fish. The restaurant has a full sushi bar and is open for dinner year-round. It is closed on Sun. Reservations are recommended.

5. Heatherwood At Kings Way

Description: Located at the beautiful condominium community Kings Way off Route 6A, Heatherwood is one of the Cape’s premier retirement communities. It offers 183 one- and two-bedroom independent-living units as well as 14 assisted-living units. Amenities include a meal plan, housekeeping, maintenance, transportation, social activities, and arts and crafts activities. The facilities include a greenhouse and resident storage areas. A doctor visits once a week. Heatherwood also shares numerous amenities with Kings Way, including walking trails, tennis courts, a swimming pool, and, of course, the Kings Way golf course. Surface and underground parking is plentiful, and each resident has a security and emergency response system.

6. Captain Bangs Hallet House

Description: Owned and operated by the Historic Society of Old Yarmouth, the oldest section of the Captain Bangs Hallet House was built in 1740. The main section was then added in 1840. The site is named for Capt. Bangs Hallet, who lived here after retiring from the China trade and acquiring the house from Captain Allen H. Knowles in 1863. Tours of the building take place Thurs through Sun at 1, 2, and 3 p.m. from June through mid-Oct. Call ahead to arrange group tours. Admission is $3.00 for adults and 50 cents for children.

7. Winslow Crocker House

Description: A Georgian design, this 1780 house was built in West Barnstable and moved to Yarmouthport. It has elaborate paneling, a large central chimney, a bowed roof, and a fine collection of decorative arts from the 1600s to 1800s. Owned and operated by Historic New England, the newly restored Winslow Crocker House is open the first Sat of each month from June to Oct. Hourly tours begin at 11 a.m., with the last tour beginning at 4 p.m. Admission is $4.

8. Camp Wingate-Kirkland

Description: Since the late 1950s, this coeducational overnight youth camp has offered sports, water activities, arts and crafts, camp craft, music, and drama. Children can choose from a seven-week session or one of the two three-and-a-half-week sessions, paying either $8,550 for the full season or $5,450 for a half session.
