Description: The Maine Children’s Alliance is a coalition of individuals and organizations that advocates for state policies to improve the lives of children, youth, and families. Started in 1994, the Maine Children’s Alliance currently has a staff of seven based in Augusta. Individual membership to the alliance costs $25 a year. Members participate in statewide surveys, receive support from the alliance for grassroots community action for children, and receive periodic updates about Maine’s children and issues affecting them. The Maine Children’s Alliance also sponsors the popular Champions for Children/Giraffe Awards, which every year identifies local individuals and organizations that “stick their neck out for kids.”

Description: The Department of Parks and Lands allows people age 65 or older to use the state’s park system free, anytime. We’re talking day use though, not camping. This privilege is particularly handy for folks who live near a park and would like to use it on a daily basis. Just call and they’ll mail you out a free Senior Citizen Pass. Then, as they say, you’re golden.
