1. Links At Outlook

City: Berwick, ME
Category: Golf
Telephone: (207) 384-4653
Address: Route 4

Description: Designed “in the Scottish tradition,” the links here nonetheless feel thoroughly New English, built as they are on the grounds of an old Maine farm—there’s still a big, beautiful red barn on the premises (see if you can hit the broad side of it). The 18-hole course was designed by Golf World magazine’s Architect of the Year 1999, Brian Silva, and its bent grass greens and fairways are thoughtfully laid out on 140 acres of rising and falling meadows. Here and there these grasslands are punctuated by sand bunkers and rolling dunes. Its 6,500, par 71 yards are very open and photogenic, and they play nicely, too. The season here starts in May and runs through autumn, and there are attractive off-season rates ($40 for 18 holes on a weekday, say, in foliage season). The Links also offers Twilight All You Can Play times after 4 p.m. during summer, where $45 will get you as many hours of golf as you want. Then wind down on the patio with something from the bar. Find the latest golf fashions in the pro shop, sign up for instruction, or plan your wedding on the course—it’s a full-service place. Rentals, practice green, and a driving range with targets at 100, 150, and 200 yards all await.
