Gorham, ME City Guides

1. Gorham Country Club

City: Gorham, ME
Category: Golf
Telephone: (207) 839-3490
Address: 134 McLellan Rd.

Description: In the college town of Gorham—half of the University of Southern Maine is located here (the other campus is in Portland)—this is a fun course of bluegrass fairways and bent grass greens spread across a bosky, rolling landscape. The 18 holes are par 71, and water comes into play on four of them. Built in 1961 and designed by James MacDonald Sr., the course has played host to the Maine Open, and it has all the facilities to accommodate such an event. From a well-outfitted pro shop to cart and club rentals to the restaurant and lounge to the locker room and showers, everything a duffer would need is here. Unless you want to show up at 6:30 a.m. when the course opens, you might want to call ahead for tee times—and wear a shirt there, Tarzan, they’re required (along with shoes).

The assisted-living option brings the care right to your apartment, and help is offered with recreational and transportational needs.
