1. Ocean House

City: Port Clyde, ME
Category: Accommodations
Telephone: (207) 372-6691 or (800) 269-66
Address: Port Clyde Rd.

Description: It doesn’t get much more charming than this venerable 1830s-era hotel. Port Clyde, of course, is one of the principal jumping-off points for trips out to Monhegan, and people often stay in one of the 10 rooms here in order to easily catch the early boat. The rooms are comfortably old-fashioned, with their lace curtains and mirror-topped dressers, and many have views out onto the water.

2. Marshall Point Light

City: Port Clyde, ME
Category: Tours & Attractions
Telephone: (207) 372-6450
Address: Marshall Point Rd.

Description: Marshall Point is another one of Maine’s oft-photographed lighthouses, thanks to its distinctive footbridge. The white tower protects the south entrance to Port Clyde Harbor, and it was built in 1832 at a time when the small community was an important Maine port thanks to its granite quarries, shipbuilding yards, and canneries. Today the town owns the light, and its grounds are open to walkers and picnickers. There’s also a small museum on the premises that tells the story of this light and a few others in the area. It’s open Sunday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Memorial Day through September. Admission is free, but a donations is appreciated.
