Description: The Portland Community Free Clinic serves adults with limited income and those without insurance or a primary physician. The clinic is staffed by more than 200 volunteer physicians, nurses, and other medical workers and is run by a partnership between Mercy Hospital and Portland’s Public Health Division and the Health and Human Services Department. Many of the volunteer medical staff at the clinic are specialists who run their own private practice elsewhere in the city; thus, an unusually wide range of treatment is available here, including cardiology, dermatology, dentistry, gynecology, gastroenterology, urology, and plastic surgery. The clinic also runs a needle exchange program and provides STD testing and counseling.Due to the often specialized nature of treatment provided at the clinic, patients are not seen on a walk-in basis. Patients must call ahead to schedule an appointment. The clinic is open Monday through Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday afternoons from 1 to 3 p.m. Calls are accepted Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
