Description: What would Damariscotta area duffers do without Wawenock? A lot of traveling, that’s what. This is the only course for miles, and it is consequently very popular on weekends. Established in the 1920s, the nine holes here have a reputation for being fairly challenging. Par is 70 for these 6,037 yards, and the hilly, tree-lined terrain makes for plenty of tough shots. The clubhouse is located across Route 129 from the actual links and is a neat old Victorian structure. It’s fairly well stocked with a pro shop, snack bar, locker room, and showers. You can rent clubs and carts, practice on the green or the practice bunker, or hit a few on the driving range. Tee times are a good idea on weekends in high summer and can be arranged as much as a week in advance.
