Description: The University of Minnesota–Twin Cities Libraries contain the largest collection of materials in the state, including some 6 million books, 37,000 periodical subscriptions, 2.6 million government documents, and 400,000 maps. The library system’s extensive holdings are housed in five major libraries and 14 branch locations on the U of M’s campuses in Minneapolis and St. Paul. In addition to the main Wilson Library general collection, the system includes such specialized collections as the Veterinary Medical Library on the St. Paul campus, the Science and Engineering Library within Walter Library on the East Bank of the Minneapolis campus, and the Eric Sevareid Journalism Library in Murphy Hall on the East Bank. The U of M Library is also the regional depository for Minnesota and South Dakota of all publications produced by the U.S. Government Printing Office, and the library boasts more than one million full-text journal articles stored in electronic databases.University students, faculty, staff, and research assistants enjoy free borrowing privileges to the library’s collections. The general public can borrow books and other materials from the library by joining the Friends of the Libraries, with a minimum donation of $80 annually, or by requesting an interlibrary loan at a public library.
