Description: Mark Twain School, located in the extreme southeastern corner of Taney County, is a small school, kindergarten through eight, that retains some of the best characteristics of the area’s old one-room schools. The area seems isolated because it has not had the road improvements that other parts of the county have experienced. This is because so much of the district is in the Mark Twain National Forest, and there is no bridge over Lake Bull Shoals to the south. The school even takes in some Arkansas students on the north side of Lake Bull Shoals. The Branson boom has had little effect on its enrollment, nor is student mobility a problem. Its enrollment is 69. The school is fully accredited, and with seven full-time and five part-time teachers it has one of the lowest student-to-teacher ratios in the county, nine to one. The district has an assessed valuation of $5.9 million. The school recently received a computer grant and has a computer lab with Internet access. High school students in the district may elect to attend Forsyth, Bradleyville, or Lutie School in Ozark County.
