Description: The Clayton School District encompasses three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. The district strives to maintain its student to teacher ratio of 12:1, and Clayton schools are considered one of the nation’s premier school systems and are regularly ranked among the county’s best in terms of Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) and Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) results. Nearly half of its teachers—46 percent—have more than 16 years of teaching experience, and student demographics are 70 percent Caucasian, 22 percent African American, and 8 percent Asian, Hispanic, or Native American. Clayton’s The Family Center offers a variety of parent-child and parent education programs, support groups, and a Special Services Program that features development screening, early childhood special education, and individual and family counseling.
