Description: Saint Louis University High School (SLUH), an all-boy Catholic, Jesuit educational institution, was founded in 1818 as St. Louis Academy. The school grew rapidly and eventually included a college, which was granted a charter as Saint Louis University in 1832. Located next door to the Saint Louis Science Center, SLUH remains one of the largest private schools in Missouri. The 1,000 students are drawn from more than 121 area elementary and middle schools, and SLUH’s student body is comprised of young men from diverse geographic and economic backgrounds. Saint Louis University High is a major player in the local sports and scholastic scenes and boasts a number of prominent St. Louisans among its alumni. The school accepts applications for students entering the ninth grade, and applications for admission after the ninth grade, such as transfer students, are considered only on a space-available basis. Admission is based on the applicant’s grades, scores on standardized tests, and an interview with the applicant and his parent or guardian. Like most of the more popular Catholic schools, the admissions process is extremely competitive.
