Description: Called the fastest 3⁄8-mile track in the country, Orange County Speedway nurtured some of NASCAR’s biggest stars in their early days: Jimmy Johnson, Bobby Labonte, and both Jeff and Ward Burton. Built in the early 1960s, the speedway started as a dirt track before being paved. The speedway sits in northeastern Orange County near Rougemont, about 15 miles north of Durham. OCS now features drivers in the late model, limited sportsman, grand stock, and pure stock class, and for its size, there’s really not a bad seat in the house.
