Description: James Arthur Vineyards isn’t just one of the best vineyards in eastern Nebraska, it’s one of the state’s best. Nebraska isn’t exactly the next Napa Valley, but its wineries continually bring home medals from wine contests, and James Arthur is no exception. Located just outside Lincoln, James Arthur is a popular destination for wine tastings. Guests can choose to try four or six wines during a typical tasting; samples are one ounce per taste and the tasting fee includes a complimentary wine glass. A four-wine tasting is $4, a six-glass tasting is $5.Though wine tastings are the main activity on the schedule at James Arthur, the vineyard also serves a wide variety of Nebraska foods and invites tourists to eat on its porch; in its tasting room; or out on the vineyard grounds, where tables, chairs, and swings are scattered about, making for many romantic, secluded spots.Food is available a la carte or in a basket, which is designed to feed at least two people. Bread, meat, fish, cheese, and chocolate—all made by local vendors—are available. Visitors can enjoy their food with a bottle of wine, which the vineyard will open as long as the bottle is consumed on-site. During cooler months, guests are invited to enjoy their vittles in front of the large stone fireplace. The winery doesn’t offer a regular tour, but an observation deck overlooks the production area and is always open. Visitors are also encouraged to walk the trails through the winery grounds and take in the grapes first-hand.
