Description: Home cooking done right. Big Mama’s Kitchen owner Patricia “Big Mama” Barron has been cooking her traditional American cuisine for more than 30 years. Barron ran a catering business out of her kitchen before opening the full-service restaurant in North Omaha in 2008. The restaurant is in a former cafeteria space, and some of that school day charm is still visible in the large space, full of big tables and a corner kitchen. Soul food is at the heart of what Big Mama’s Kitchen makes, and the menu includes dishes like fried catfish and greens, chitterlings, feather bones, hot wings, loose meat sandwiches, and Cuban sandwiches, among many other items. Big Mama’s serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and the breakfast menu includes lots of home cooking: a house recipe breakfast casserole, thick cut bacon, eggs, hash browns, and biscuits. At Big Mama’s you simply must put the diet aside to enjoy the delicious flavors of a home-cooked meal.
