The Hedges Inn is housed within a homestead that dates back to 1652. The property has served as an inn since 1870; however, everything about it has been fully modernized, while maintaining a classic and traditional ambiance. Today the inn is one of the most luxurious and comfortable places to stay in the Hamptons.The first thing you’ll notice when you step through the front door is the cleanliness. You literally won’t find a speck of dust anywhere, and everything will be in its proper place. You’ll experience the comforts of home right away. This inn’s attention to detail carries over into each of the 12 guestrooms, where the furnishings are posh and comfortable. Within the rooms are extremely comfortable beds, a bathroom with all-new fixtures and amenities from Bulgari, and a flat-screen television, along with other furnishings that contribute to the decor yet are also highly functional. Each room has its own heating/air-conditioning unit, Wi-Fi Internet access, telephones, and plush bathrobes. Upon check-in, Godiva chocolates and bottled water will be waiting in your room. As you’d expect, the breakfast offered at the Hedges Inn goes well beyond a traditional continental breakfast. You’ll have plenty of options as you relax in the main dining room or outside on the large and nicely furnished deck. There are also several common indoor areas for guests to relax, watch television, and socialize.Whether visiting for a night, a weekend, or a full week, this is the perfect place for couples to stay for a romantic getaway or when exploring Long Island’s wine country. Description: As you’d expect in East Hampton, this area has no shortage of upscale places to stay. The Mill House is another luxurious inn that’s ideal for couples looking to experience a romantic getaway. This inn’s focus is on offering the very best of everything—from accommodations and service to a bountiful breakfast every morning. It is located walking distance of the ocean and East Hampton Village, the area’s main shopping district. Unlike many upscale inns, this one is both child- and dog-friendly. However, adults will certainly appreciate the sophistication, luxury, and comfort more than kids or teens.Within the 10 guestrooms and suites, supreme comfort is the goal. In addition the posh furnishings, comfortable beds adorned with fine linens and down pillows and quilts, and luxury private bathroom with a walk-in shower and separate oversize whirlpool tub, you’ll find a wide range of extra amenities, like a gas fireplace, wet bar, coffeemaker, iPod docking station, Wi-Fi Internet access, and flat-screen television with DVD player. Description: The 1770 House is a famous inn, located in the heart of East Hampton. Especially during the peak summer season, reservations are an absolute must. For dinner, there’s a three-course prix fixe menu, offered between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m., which is affordably priced at $32 per person. Ordering the expertly prepared, award-winning cuisine from the traditional menu will be significantly more expensive, but the dining experience is well worth it. For a flat fee of $75, the restaurant also offers a five-course chef’s selection “market menu,” which is prepared for the entire table. The meals are prepared by award-winning chef Kevin Penner, who specializes in contemporary American cuisine. Connected to the fine-dining restaurant is a separate, less fancy tavern/pub area. In addition to the fine food and extensive wine list, guests receive superior service and highly personalized attention.The building that houses the 1770 House Restaurant & Inn was originally built in 1663. However, it was in 1770 that the home became an inn. The building retains much of its original architecture, and the decor creates a lovely and timeless dining atmosphere. This is a wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion or a romantic meal with a loved one. In addition to a variety of appetizers, guests can choose from a selection of fine cheeses from around the world, while enjoying perfectly paired wines. House specialties include roasted organic baby chicken, Copper River rib eye steak, roasted Iowa pork loin, roasted breast of Long Island duck, pan-roasted organic Scottish salmon, and poached lobster. Just like the inn itself, the 1770 House Restaurant is one of the nicest and most upscale establishments in the Hamptons.

Description: Offering dinner only, Wed through Sun, Fresno was created by veteran restaurateurs David Loewenberg and Michael Nolan and opened its doors in 2004. The menu features New American cuisine with a focus on local fare. The dining atmosphere is sophisticated, yet semicasual. An affordable ($28 per person) three-course prix fixe dinner is available until 6:32 p.m. in the dining room, and at the bar throughout the evening. On Wed nights a three-course specialty dinner (with selections from the entire menu) is offered for $30 per person. From the traditional menu, entrees include roasted natural chicken breast, mezze rigatoni, cazuela-roasted halibut, pan-seared Scottish salmon, grilled center-cut pork chop, pan-seared loin of lamb, and a grilled hanger steak. As you’d expect, the restaurant offers full bar service, and expertly selected wine pairings are available with the meal.

Description: Located on the waterfront, Harbor Bistro is the ideal place to experience a “before the sunset” three-course prix fixe dinner, affordably priced at between $19 and $29 per person. Like many of the restaurants in the Hamptons, the atmosphere is upscale, yet casual. On the main menu over a dozen appetizers are offered, including lobster bisque, yellowfin tuna poke, flash-fried calamari, crab cakes, and slow-cooked duck and mushroom crepes. The Fuji apple and blue cheese salad is also a popular option on the menu, as is the Mediterranean shrimp-quinoa. When you’re ready for your entree, you’ll have an extensive choice among the pasta, fish, and meat dishes, including rigatoni Bolognese, shichimi shrimp linguine, pistachio-crusted tilapia, hibachi salmon, sesame seared yellowfin tuna, line-grilled local “catch,” rib eye steak, pork tenderloin, pan-roasted Crescent Farms duck breast, and filet mignon. A full wine and alcohol selection, including tequilas and cognac, are offered, as is an impressive homemade dessert selection.

Description: While vacationing in the Hamptons, you can enjoy an authentic Italian lunch or dinner seven days a week at CittaNuova. Modeled after the traditional trattoria and located in the heart of East Hampton, the dining room’s decor has a strong Italian influence, as does the expertly prepared food that’s served here. The main menu changes throughout the year, but house specialties include pasta, seafood, chicken, and steak dishes. In addition to the fine food, CittaNuova is known for its extensive and impressive wine list, as well as its desserts.

Description: Citarella offers a selection of prepared meals for takeout, plus a few tables within the storefront location. However, this is primarily an upscale, gourmet supermarket that offers a wide range of ultra-fresh and organic foods. It’s basically East Hampton’s answer to the Whole Foods Market, only a bit smaller and nicer. This is the place to shop for fresh seafood, prime meats, fine cheeses, caviar, and other gourmet foods. The selection of prepared foods includes steamed lobster and other dishes that are made fresh daily. Additional locations can be found at 670 Montauk Hwy., Watermill, and 2209 Montauk Hwy., Bridgehampton.
