Description: If you haven’t heard about Webb Institute, it’s not surprising. Located in Glen Cove (on Long Island Sound), this is a very small academic institution with a student body of just 90 undergraduates and a full-time faculty composed of just 10 professors. The people who attend Webb pursue just one academic option—a double major in naval architecture and marine engineering. Not surprisingly, Webb Institute is the only full-tuition scholarship, private undergraduate program of its kind in the country. In other words, if you’re admitted into the program, you receive a 100 percent four-year scholarship. As a result of its highly specialized curriculum, graduates have a 100 percent job-placement success rate, and many undergraduate students go on to receive graduate school placement. This school has been ranked fifth in the United States as a source of empirical science PhDs.
