Description: If you’re looking for a sophisticated and elegant lounge where you can enjoy late-night drinks, drop by Rare Olive. The lounge is open on Thurs, Fri, and Sat nights, typically between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. On Fri, Rare Olive hosts a dance party (sometimes with live music), while on Sat, a live DJ plays popular music.

Description: Featuring an elegant, modern, and upscale setting, complete with a massive fireplace in the dining room and large windows that overlook the water, the decor is accented by glass statues and wood furnishings. As the restaurant’s name suggests, Prime serves all-American cuisine that includes seafood, steak, and chicken entrees, but it also offers an impressive sushi menu. Soups and salads are among the appetizer offerings, plus there’s a seafood bar that features items like lobster cocktail, king crab legs, shrimp cocktail, littleneck clams, and oysters. The Prime Plateau seasonal seafood bar tower is a popular appetizer selection for two people ($35 per person). Along with the sushi menu, house specialties include Chilean sea bass, red snapper, salmon, tuna, and lobster, along with filet mignon, roasted organic chicken, New York strip steak, a porterhouse steak for two, veal chops, and Colorado lamb rack. Sun through Thurs a $40 prix fixe menu is offered and includes a starter, an entree, and a dessert. Add selected wine pairings for $10 more per person.

Description: Serving fine Argentinean cuisine, Cafe Buenos Aires offers a unique and semicasual dining experience in Huntington. The menu includes a full tapas bar and traditional bar service. In the sandwich category, house specialties include the Lomito (sliced hanger steak with lettuce, tomato, onions, and melted Swiss cheese), Pollo (herb-seasoned chicken breast with lettuce, tomato, onions, and provolone cheese), and Hamburguesa de Atun (fresh yellowfin tuna with lettuce, tomato, and onions). Specially prepared New York strip steak, grilled lamb chops, Cornish hen, roasted pork chops, grilled skirt steak, grilled flap steak, stuffed chicken breast, and a handful of pasta and seafood dishes round out the menu. All of the entrees are prepared in an Argentinean or European cooking style, using fresh ingredients.While Cafe Buenos Aires has the laid-back but classy atmosphere of a privately owned, one-of-a-kind restaurant, it’s operated by RestStar Hospitality, which owns a handful of unique restaurants in New York City and on Long Island. Reservations are suggested, but typically not required. The restaurant does, however, tend to get busy on weekends.

Description: Open exclusively for dinner, Honu: Kitchen & Cocktails offers a classy and sophisticated dining experience. While the menu isn’t extensive, the food is top-notch and tastes delicious. The focus is on pairing the food with fine wines. The restaurant offers an extensive wine list, including at least a dozen wines served by the glass and a half-dozen selections served by the half-bottle. Appetizers include pumpkin soup, lobster bisque, seared ahi tuna, Caesar salad, shrimp, and wings. Entrees include swordfish, shrimp, tuna, Chilean sea bass, mahi mahi, pork tenderloin, French chicken breast, and short ribs, along with a cheeseburger, rib eye steak, New York strip steak, and filet mignon. Without the wine pairings, the food prices are affordable (in the $15 to $30 range for the entrees); however, the meal price goes up somewhat considerably when you start pairing the fine wines with each course. Reservations are strongly recommended.

6. Long Island Ballet Theatre

Description: The Huntington Center for the Performing Arts was established in 2005 by Joan Albright and Susan Alessi. The goal was to create a conservatory environment that would allow Long Islanders to learn about and experience the performing arts without having to travel to New York City. The Huntington Ballet Academy was then created to support the work of the Long Island Ballet Theatre, an organization that was established in 2000. The Long Island Ballet Theatre is a not-for-profit ballet company that was created to allow up-and-coming ballet students to perform side by side with professional dancers. This is a community-based ballet troupe that holds open auditions for every production, plus recruits professional dancers from throughout the region. The Long Island Ballet Theatre is a permanent resident of the Huntington Center for the Performing Arts.

7. Heckscher Museum Of Art

Description: This museum showcases works from local and national collections throughout the year. Within the permanent collection are European and American paintings, drawings, prints, and sculptures. Between Jan and Apr 2010, an exhibit titled “Arcadia/Suburbia: Architecture on Long Island, 1930–2010” was on display. This exhibit utilized photos, paintings, and other media to showcase well-known architects, their works, and how they have been incorporated on Long Island.

8. Huntington Historical Society Museums

Description: Located within four historic buildings, the Huntington Historical Society presents museums that showcase life from the late 1700s through the early 1900s. The museums are open year-round, but hours vary by season. Visitors see firsthand how life has evolved from farming and country living within the region. The museum’s genealogy workshop has been in existence since 1975 and continues to help people from all over the country research and trace their family’s roots.
