Description: Occupying more than 200 planted acres, Macari Vineyards & Winery is one of the largest in the region. It was established in 1994 and produces Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Pinot Noir, and Syrah. There’s a lovely wine-tasting room and beautiful outdoor areas that visitors can explore.

5. Sherwood House Vineyards

Description: Operating from its 38 planted acres since 1996, Sherwood House Vineyards specializes in Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. The small wine-tasting room and outdoor area is open to the public seven days a week year-round, usually between noon and 6 p.m.

Description: Another of the smaller vineyards in the region, Shinn Estate produces Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, and Petit Verdot from the grapes grown on its 22 planted acres. For $8.50 per person, the vineyard’s owners host 20- to 30-minute walking tours of the vineyards and winemaking facilities, which end with a short wine-tasting. Reservations are required.

Description: Like many upscale regions of Long Island, Mattituck features a wonderful, authentic Italian restaurant. A Touch of Venice offers a lovely waterfront view, patio dining, and expertly prepared cuisine. The restaurant has been a hallmark in the region for more than 20 years. Live music is presented during dinner on Fri, Sat, and Sun nights, and an affordable prix fixe menu is offered nightly ($20 per person). Classic Italian selections are showcased on the menu, along with steak, chicken, and seafood entrees.
