Description: Hideaway Pizza has been an Oklahoma institution since it was founded in Stillwater in 1957. After 36 years of one location, the clamor for Hideaway was loud enough that founder Richard Dermer had to franchise. Now there are Hideaways in several Oklahoma cities, including five locations in the Tulsa area.Hideaway’s decor is casual, with large collages on the walls. These are 4-foot-by-6-foot descendants of the wall-sized collage that decorated the original restaurant. Created by kindergarten classes to college students, they were winners in Hideaway collage competitions.Order salad or pasta if you want; try the spicy mushroom caps, but you must eat the pizza. Try traditional cheese and Hideaway red sauce and you won’t be disappointed, but get a little more adventuresome and you’re in for quite a treat. Choices include pizzas with kielbasa, pizzas with pineapple, or pizzas with barbecue sauce. The number one seller is the Paradise Pie—Hideaway Alfredo sauce, mozzarella, smoked provolone, grilled chicken, smoked bacon, fresh sliced mushrooms, fresh spinach, and diced Roma tomatoes.Hideaway is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. And if you want wine or beer with your pizza, you’ll be accommodated. The 15th St. location offers some patio service, but the entire property is nonsmoking.
