City: Oregon City, OR
Category: Education
Telephone: (503) 657-6958
Address: 19600 South Molalla Ave.

Description: Serving about 28,000 students annually, almost 8,000 of them full-time, Clackamas Community College (CCC) may have a lot of students, but it feels like a small college. CCC students take advantage of a variety of programs, from basic literacy and study skills to college-prep courses. Popular programs include the two-year Associate of Science degrees or the Certificates of Completion; these are granted in more than 30 areas of study. Students also may pursue the Oregon Transfer degree, an Associate of Arts degree that guarantees junior standing at any Oregon University System school (and which many non-Oregon University System schools will also honor). Transfer-degree students have more than 70 options for major study. Because many students lack the basic skills to obtain even a high school diploma, CCC also offers personal tutoring and courses that cover fundamental academic and life skills. Some of these programs cover GED preparation and English for nonnative speakers in addition to courses in career possibilities and parenting. CCC also offers credit and noncredit courses that cover dozens of areas of personal interest at more than 100 locations.

Insider Pick:

Description: This beautiful par-72 municipal course, designed by Oregon’s own Peter Jacobsen, is situated on 165 diverse acres in Oregon City. The front 9 inhabit a pastoral meadow, and the back 9, wooded wetlands. In fact, water hazards are everywhere—three lakes, four wetlands, and Stone Creek itself. You’ll also find views of Mount Hood—and 41 bunkers. This course was designed expressly to challenge and delight players at every level of golf, from the novice to the pro, with rewards for risky shots. The hardest hole is number 5, with its narrow frame of tall fir trees and uphill slope. The 13th hole is also notable; there, your blind tee shot goes over a hill and lands out of view, then you play uphill to a green encircled by majestic firs. Stone Creek provides an all-grass driving range that stretches over 6.5 acres, with six target greens and facilities to practice bunker shots. Club amenities include a pro shop, a full-service deli with three brews on tap, and a clubhouse suitable for parties.
