Description: Tucked into the slopes of Cascade Head on the central Oregon Coast, Sitka Center for Art and Ecology is a unique educational facility and working artists’ studio that celebrates the relationship between nature and art. This special facility is located in a beautiful natural setting adjacent to the Nature Conservancy preserve, in the midst of an 8,000-acre national scenic area and overlooking the Salmon River estuary, which inspires artists with its natural beauty. The Sitka Center is operated by the Neskowin Coast Foundation and offers a variety of workshops and special residency programs for artists, writers, and naturalists. The facilities at the center consist of studios where classes and workshops are held. The facility itself is surrounded by the Harold Hirsch Garden, which provides a natural setting for conducting outdoor workshops. Classes and workshops are offered throughout the year in books and journaling, drawing, ecology, fibers, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and other art media, and writing. The center also hosts various shows, readings, and music events. Visit the center’s Web site for a current course catalog and a current list of events.
