Description: The Pumpkin Patch on beautiful Sauvie Island swarms with schoolchildren on field trips in the fall, but it’s open as early as June. Its classic red barn is home to rabbits, pigs, and other animals. The u-pick fields are filled with luscious berries (for example, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries) as well as apricots, nectarines, tomatoes, flowers, and, of course, pumpkins. During the harvest festival, wagon and pony rides keep the little ones busy. An elaborate, scary, dark, and beloved corn maze (or “corn maize” as they like to call it) attracts older kids and adults, especially on crisp fall nights. (Be forewarned: It is very muddy, even when the weather is dry, and it gets cold.) To get to the Pumpkin Patch, take US 30 west to Sauvie Island and circle left under the bridge. This will place you on Gillihan Road, and you’ll find the farm after about 2 miles—watch for the signs.
