1. The Bridges Golf Club

City: Abbottstown, PA
Category: Golf
Telephone: (717) 624-9551
Address: 6729 York Road

Description: Getting its name from the 10 bridges that are along many of the paved cart paths that meander over this 6,713-yard, par 72, 18-hole course, the Bridges is located less than 15 miles east of Gettysburg. The golf club is a member of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, and the course is designed to allow woodlands and wetlands to remain undisturbed, so you have an excellent chance of seeing plenty of wildlife as you golf here. The clubhouse, which is actually a refurbished furniture factory from the 1800s, has 12 rooms for overnight stays, and golf packages are available. Meals are served at the charming Bridges Grill and Deck, which overlooks the course. A pro shop is located within the clubhouse, and a driving range, a putting green, lessons, and club rentals are available. The course has received a four-star rating in Golf Digest and a top-100 rating in Golf for Women magazine. The lengthy 558-yard par 5 No. 8 hole is probably the trickiest, and the 534-yard par 5 No. 15 hole is probably the most scenic, with a hill that overlooks the entire back nine holes. Tee times are required, and you’re not allowed to wear metal-spike shoes on the course. The Bridges requires proper golf attire, specifically a collared shirt and midlength hemmed shorts. The cost to ride the course is $59 from 7:00 to 11:00 a.m., $49 before 7:00 a.m., $50 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and $45 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. A greens fee of $21 is charged after 6:00 p.m. every day.
