Description: This fully furnished, 10-room, 4-bedroom, 11⁄2-bath 1822 center-hall colonial farmhouse, which is owned by Ted and Sandy Abahazy, can be rented for $550 for two nights on a weekend to $1,200 for a full-week stay. Once you check in, the run of the house is yours; no one enters the house until you check out. Sitting on an apple orchard surrounded by 35 acres and located only 8 miles north of Gettysburg, the house is often rented by Gettysburg College alumni for reunion weekends. The house is beautifully furnished with antiques in a country colonial motif, and each of the four bedrooms has a theme. The North Room, with stenciling throughout, has a four-poster queen-size bed, and the South Room has a canopy queen-size bed. Both the North and South Rooms have mannequins outfitted in ladies’ dresses from the Civil War era. The Garden Room has a full bed and is filled with all things related to gardening. A three-quarter bed (a little shorter than a full-size bed) is in the Hunting and Fishing Room, which is often used as a child’s room. In addition to the modern kitchen and baths, you’ll also find a living room, dining room, laundry room, and game room, which has chess, many board games, and a record player that actually plays 45s and 33s (records are supplied also—you can give the kids a history lesson while you’re being nostalgic). Don’t worry about doing laundry— towels left in the laundry basket on the front porch are replaced by fresh ones daily, and one extra set of sheets is also available. You don’t need to bring any essentials except food, and Ted and Sandy will be glad to direct you to the local grocery. The house comes with a TV with basic cable and a phone for local calls only. It also has central air-conditioning with separate controls for the upstairs and downstairs levels of the home. If you’re feeling adventurous, be sure to ask to see the alpacas that are raised on the neighboring farm by Ted and Sandy’s daughter. Or visit the henhouse and retrieve a few eggs for your morning meal. Guests may also pick their own apples, with the first bushel being free of charge. Corn and pumpkins are also available for harvesting.
