At least one hole plays alongside Hogg Inlet (a popular fishing area for Cherry Grove residents), so you can watch anglers reel in a few as you plan your next shot. This fabulous course was named one of the best new public courses by both Golf Digest and GOLF Magazine in 1990. Recently it was named by GOLF Magazine as number 39 on its Top 100 You Can Play list.Situated on 560 acres of seaside peninsula, Tidewater gives you plenty of elbow room and privacy. The only hole you can see at any given time is the one you’re playing, which creates the feeling of absolute solitude. The course has five sets of tees, so golfers can select those that best suit their games. Depending on tee selection, you can stretch this par 72 course from 4,765 to 7,020 yards. Tidewater is one of the Grand Strand’s most expensive golf courses (greens fees are $145), but when you see it, you’ll understand why. Hale Irwin, three-time U.S. Open champion, called Tidewater “one of the finest and most spectacular courses on the East Coast.” This course is definitely not to be missed. Walking is permitted.
