Description: Ezell-Harding, an independent school established in 1973, has an enrollment of about 900 students from pre-K through 12th grade. It is accredited by SACS. A quest for excellence is apparent in the accomplishments of the 2007 senior class with three National Merit Semi-Finalists, two National Merit Commended Scholars, and one National Merit Achievement Participant Scholar. EHCS, a member of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association, fields boys’ teams in baseball, basketball, football, golf, soccer, tennis, track, and cross-country, and girls’ teams in basketball, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, volleyball, track, and cross-country.

2. Starwood Amphitheatre

Description: Starwood Amphitheatre is the area’s only major outdoor venue. It has a capacity of more than 18,000, including 5,200 covered seats in the pavilion and a gently sloping lawn where you can spread a blanket and enjoy the music under the stars. Major concerts in recent years have included Jimmy Buffett, the Dave Matthews Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and the Eagles. A word to the wise: Allow plenty of time when going to a Starwood show, as traffic can back up for miles on I-24, as well as on Murfreesboro Road.

3. Four Corners Marina

Description: In addition to a boat launch and slips, Four Corners has boat rentals and sells gas and bait-and-tackle supplies. The marina’s restaurant serves burgers, catfish, and fried chicken. You can even buy your fishing license here. A long-standing institution, Four Corners is a favorite with locals who remember visiting the marina when they were kids.

4. Tennessee Youth Football Alliance

Description: This organization serves boys and girls ages 5 to 14 in football and cheerleading. TYFA has about 15 communities throughout Middle Tennessee, which together sponsor more than 140 teams. Area communities include the South Nashville Sooners. Part of the TYFA’s mission is teaching kids the values of fair play, teamwork, and competitiveness.
