Description: In March 2006 HCA acquired the two Tennessee Christian Medical Centers from Adventist Health Systems. With this acquisition, the Madison center has become part of Skyline Medical Center. The Tennessee Christian Medical Center in Portland was renamed Portland Medical Center. As of September 1, 2006, Portland was managed by Hendersonville Medical Center. Tennessee Christian Medical Center, which admitted its first patient in 1908, now has 273 acute-care beds. Portland Medical Center has 38 beds, more than a dozen physicians, and more than 130 employees and provides intensive and coronary care, medical and surgical care, and comprehensive OB/GYN care, including a newborn nursery. Tennessee Christian has a 400-member medical staff serving 35,000 patients a year and providing outpatient and inpatient acute care as well as behavioral and rehabilitation programs. In addition to the services provided at Portland Medical Center, the Madison hospital offers cardiac catheterization; cardiopulmonary services; day surgery; 24-hour emergency services, staffed by MDs and nurses specially trained in emergency medicine; an endoscopy lab; home health services; occupational medicine; radiology; inpatient rehabilitation and behavioral services, including adolescent treatment with partial hospitalization, aftercare, and outpatient services as treatment options; adult acute treatment; an adult stress-disorders unit; and a center for addictions (based on 12-step programs pioneered by Alcoholics Anonymous).
