Description: Facing the Convention Center, this historic building lies a few blocks from Bass Hall. Its sad claim to fame is that this, when open as the Texas Hotel, was the last place President John F. Kennedy slept in 1963; he delivered a speech to an enthusiastic breakfast crowd and then another outside the hotel on the morning of November 22 before departing for Dallas. Recently renovated at a cost of $10 million, the hotel is a handsome structure with free wireless Internet in public areas and rooms; guest rooms are equipped with Bose stereos and LCD flat-panel TVs, along with clock/radios with MP3 connection. The 1,200-square-foot Presidential Suite has a parlor area and connecting king and double guest room, dining and conference area, and a wet bar. Executive level rooms give you access to the lounge where breakfast and happy hour are offered on weekdays. Pets are accepted, but a deposit is required. The business center, open 24 hours, serves the conference and meeting clientele. There’s everyday dining at Café Texas and a full steakhouse experience at Ruth’s Chris.
