Description: Located in the Blue Star Arts Complex in the King William Historic District, this was the city’s first full-scale brewpub. Owned and operated by Joey and Maggie Villarreal, it stands across from Pioneer Flour Mill on a quiet stretch of the river. Although it may be San Antonio’s first brewpub, the structure has a long history with hops: It first served as a beer warehouse.Patrons can dine inside or on the outside deck and beer garden. The menu is extensive. Lunch specialties include burgers, soups, and salads as well as many deli sandwiches; dinner options include fresh catch of the day, chicken-fried chicken breast, chicken fajita plate, jerk chicken, and often a mixed grill. Vegetarians find plenty of options as well—a tasty black bean soup, veggie burgers, and more. Appropriately, a “blue-plate special” is popular here. And what other pub do you know that has its own pastry chef? All this is served up with the real specialty of the house: beer. Among the brews on tap are Texican Lager, King William Ale, Tower Stout,Black IPA, and others. The pub is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.
