Description: Amtrak’s Northeast Regional service generally halts in Richmond, but two trains a day (three on Fridays) stretch on to Williamsburg. The Amtrak terminal, housed in what is now called the Williamsburg Transportation Center, is just three blocks from the historic district. Taxi service, provided by several companies, is available. Amtrak provides good connections through Washington, D.C., to all points north and west. Connections to the north and south are frequent from Richmond as well. Two daily westward departures serve Richmond and Washington, D.C., generally mid-morning and early afternoon (precise times change every few months). Advice for train travelers: The major car rental companies’ offices are some distance from the station. However, B&W Rental & Colonial Rent-A-Car Inc., a locally owned company, has an office in the Transportation Center. If you make a reservation with them, a company representative will meet your train with keys and a contract for a rental car in hand. Their services may save visitors taxi fare to hotels and an overnight wait for a car. Call (757) 220-3399 or (888) 220-9941 for specifics.
