Description: The three courses at this golf club have something to satisfy every golfer. The neighborhoods of Kingsmill on the James and resort property surround the courses, but the wide, exceptionally well-landscaped vistas and breathtaking views of the river remove you from any sense of encroachment—one reason why PGA and LPGA tournaments have been held here for three decades. The River Course is the crown jewel. Designed by the legendary Pete Dye, the par 72, 5,001-yard course is both challenging and scenic. The design requires accuracy off the tee and precise shots into greens which are well-protected by strategically placed bunkers. Holes 16, 17, and 18 are not only challenging—they have river views. The Plantation Course, par 72, is a 6,432-yard Arnold Palmer design. Undulating greens make for a putting challenge, and a couple of the par 4s will test you off the tee. In 1993, the 18th hole was redesigned to feature a new fairway and green. Considered a challenging but fair layout, the Plantation Course has been ranked by Golf Digest as one of the “Top 50 Courses for Women.” Lastly there is the Woods Course, designed by Tom Clark and two-time U.S. Open Champion Curtis Strange. East of the other courses, this 6,659-yard achievement looked like a course that had cured for 20 years on the day it opened. It features its own clubhouse with all the amenities you would expect at a world-class resort such as Kingsmill. The courses are open to the public. Greens fees range from $85 to $160, depending on which course you play. A nine-hole par 3 is $12 for adults and $6 for children 17 and under. All fees include the mandatory golf cart. Golf clinics are available to resort guests for $20 per person. One-, two-, and three-day Golf Academy programs are also available. Visitors can reserve a tee time 24 hours in advance.
