Description: Virginia Gazette, is a twice-weekly newspaper that covers only local news. Like many small-town weeklies, it has its quirks—but for decades no one has covered Williamsburg as well. The paper, like the town, also takes its history very seriously: The Gazette was first published in 1736, and likes to style itself as America’s oldest non-daily newspaper. It hits the streets each Wed and Sat.The paper is regarded as a public forum where readers comment freely and regularly on everything from local politics to their experiences as visitors. (The anonymous comments in the Last Word section, typically published on the back page, can range from amusing to downright scurrilous.) While it is owned by Tribune Company, the same owner as the nearly Daily Press in the Lower Peninsula, the papers have separate newsrooms and content. The Gazette it is also a gold mine for information on attractions, local restaurants, places to stay, what special events are on tap during your stay in the area and the real-estate market.
