Description: More than just a resort or a casino, this is a place where you can take a hike along the dunes and dig your toes in the sand at the Pacific Ocean’s edge. Olympic National Park and Washington State Park are nearby; despite the fact that it’s a casino resort, this is a great place for family fun. The rooms and suites are comfortable and warm, with a very homey vibe that’s refreshingly absent of cutting-edge interior decor. All rooms have a fireplace, which is a nice touch, and most have a majestic ocean view. On-site amenities include a day spa, fitness center, indoor pool, and Jacuzzi. The Quinault Indian Nation runs this resort, and its 1,300 members live nearby on a reservation of more than 200,000 acres of unspoiled lakes and pristine wilderness. Guests of the resort are invited to visit the reservation, led by an Indian guide who will take you on a tour of untouched coastal beaches, tell you about native birds and mammals, or lead you on a fishing expedition. There’s plenty of nightlife and several restaurants, and of course the full casino. Many special events and entertaining performances are held here constantly, from powwows and Native American festivals with dancing and arts, to fireworks displays and concerts. The town of Ocean Shores, where the resort is located, is a relaxed little ocean-side town with plenty for families to do, including free sand-sculpting lessons and sand-castle competitions. If you’re there in Mar, don’t miss the annual Razor Clam Festival.
