Description: Metro Transit is another major local bus operator in the Seattle area. In keeping with the city’s ecologically responsible mind-set, King County’s transit system has 236 hybrid buses, one of the largest such fleets in North America.Fares range from $2 to $2.75 depending on peak and off-peak travel times, and whether you are traveling within one zone or two (within the city limits constitutes one zone). Discounted youth, disabled, and senior fares are available, and children five years old and under ride free. Metro Transit also offers a “Family Plan” on Sundays and holidays that allows up to four children age 18 and under to ride free with a paying adult. All Metro bus travel within the downtown RFA is free of charge, and the ORCA card works on Metro buses as well. You can also pay as you board the bus, and remember that the drivers do not make change. It’s important when traveling by bus to double-check the route number displayed on the front and side of the bus before boarding, as several different routes come through the same bus stops. The Metro Transit Web site offers an interactive trip planner to help you find your way.
