Rat City Rollergirls - Spectator Sports - Seattle, Washington

City: Seattle, WA
Category: Spectator Sports

Description: With a motto like “You win some, you bruise some,” this is not your traditional spectator sport! If you haven’t caught wind of the revival of women’s roller derby over the past few years, you’re really missing out. It’s back in a big way, it’s fast, and it’s a lot of fun. The Rat City Rollergirls (RCRG) is Seattle’s premier all-female, flat-track roller derby league. RCRG is composed of about 80 active skaters and many more retired skaters who are still involved. The team got rolling in Apr 2004 after a group of good friends with glasses of good wine sat around a lamb stir-fry and Minute Rice dinner swapping wild stories about a roller derby resurgence in Texas. Within weeks, that dinner party conversation led to the formation of the RCRG, the first flat-track derby league in the Northwest. Within months the league—named, after a fashion, for the South Seattle neighborhood where it got its start—had grown to four teams: Derby Liberation Front, Grave Danger, Sockit Wenches, and Throttle Rockets. If you want to join the “Rat Pack” fans and see a game, check out the RCRG Web site for a schedule and more details.
